The Senate on Tuesday waded into the disaster rocking the Plateau State Home of Meeting.
This was even because the chamber condemned the ‘unconstitutional attempted’ impeachment of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abok Ayuba.
The Senate in its resolutions urged the Plateau State Home of Meeting to be guided by the rule of regulation and the structure in all of its legislative enterprise.
Coming below Order 42 and 52 of the Senate Standing Guidelines, Senator Istifanus Gyang, moved a movement of pressing public significance entitled, “Disruption of Legislative Business in PLHA: Need for Early Intervention of the Senate to Avoid Deterioration.”
Gyang in his movement, famous with concern, the barricading of the Plateau State Home of Meeting, which has halted legislative enterprise because of lack of entry to the premises.
In keeping with the lawmaker, the alleged impeachment of the speaker, Ayuba Abok, by eight (8) members of the Home, fell wanting the two-third constitutionally required quantity, as offered for in Part 92 of the 1999 Structure (as amended).
Gyang acknowledged that majority of the Members of Home are against the alleged impeachment of the Speaker.
He famous that the Convention of Audio system of the 36 States have denounced the alleged impeachment and withheld recognition for the Yakubu Sanda management.
The lawmaker warned that the deadlock and stalemate, if left unattended to, could additional degenerate.
He added that, “the development has the capacity to negatively affect the Democratic image and standing of Nigeria at the global stage.”
Citing Part 11(4) of the 1999 Structure (as amended), Gyang defined that its provision empowers the Nationwide Meeting to intervene within the affairs of the State Meeting, the place the Home is unable to transact regular legislative enterprise.
Accordingly, the Senate in its decision, urged the Plateau Home of Meeting to be guided by the rule of regulation and the structure in all legislative enterprise, significantly the place and when it impacts appointment and impeachment of a presiding officer so as to deepen democracy and uphold the independence of the legislature as an arm of presidency.
