Tottenham face Manchester City in opening fixture of 2021/22 Premier League season as new coach will battle Pep Guardiola


Soon-to-be new Tottenham head coach Paulo Fonseca is set for a baptism of fire as his side face Manchester City on the opening day of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.

The Portuguese is expected to be named as Jose Mourinho’s successor in the coming days but already his task isn’t look pretty in north London.

He will have a home match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as his first shot at winning over the club’s fans but it will see him do battle with Premier League title holders City and one of the world’s greatest coaches in Pep Guardiola.

It could also prove an interesting match with Spurs striker Harry Kane’s future uncertain and City being his most likely destination if he does quit his boyhood club this summer.

Manchester United are also interested in signing the England captain, who won both the Golden Boot and the Playmaker award last season having scored 23 goals and made 14 assists across the campaign.

Now it remains to be see whether he will be wearing lilywhite or light blue on the opening day of the season.

The fixture computer has given Spurs a couple of easier games off the back of the City clash as they take on Wolves at Molineux, Watford at home, and Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

But they round out their first six fixture with a double header of London derbies.

First up they will take on Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and then they face a trip to the Emirates to take on north London rivals Arsenal.

August 28 – Tottenham vs Watford

September 11 – Crystal Palace vs Tottenham

September 18 – Tottenham vs Chelsea

September 25 – Arsenal vs Tottenham

On Boxing Spurs have a home match against Crystal Palace, while they follow that on the December 28 with a trip to Southampton and a visit to Watford on New Years Day rounds off a kind festive period.

Their home clash with rivals will then take place on January 15 ahead of their reverse fixture with Chelsea on January 22.

Spurs may also feel they have been dealt a good hand for the run-in too.

They will play Norwich City at Carrow Road on the final day of the campaign, with matches against Brentford (a), Leicester City (h), Liverpool (a), and Burnley (h) preceding it.
